The purpose of this role is to underwrite business in accordance with the business plan within set underwriting guidelines, service standards and within individual earned or delegated underwriting authority.. This role involves underwriting complex new businesses, and offering specialist advice. Additionally, the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions and coaching and mentoring Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.

The Opportunity
We are currently hiring for aConstructionUnderwriter to join ourwell-established underwritingteam based inBirminghamand contribute tosupporting the widerConstructionteam across all of QBE’s UK offices.
OurConstruction and Engineering team provides insurance for some of the UK’s largest contractors and major UK and European projects. We cover a broad spectrum of construction risks, from building works and machinery installation to complex civil engineering projects.

Your new role
Underwrite insurance risksin accordance withthe Business Plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives
Build andmaintainstrong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, businesspartnersand colleagues, to maximise influence
Participate fully and use yourexpertiseto shape and develop strategy,knowledgeand best practice
Positively promote the department,divisionand company as a whole,in order tomaximise brand leverage
Comply withall legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
Adhere to underwriting standards,instructionsand good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency
Actively keep abreast of market dynamics anddemonstratemarket cycle awareness to be able tooperateeffectively and appropriately
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role.QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
About you
Thorough understanding of CAR,EARand Contractors Plant insurance
Good understanding of the opportunities and challenges within the UK construction industry
Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
Capability to analyse and interpret data
Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
Good verbal and written communication skills
