Position Description

As a Lead Technical Designer, you will be responsible for creating and implementing complex, technical, and systemic design elements within a game.

You will be, at your core, a recognized game or level designer with strong technical skills, working within a design or multidisciplinary production team.

Acting as the technical reference for your team, you will assist, support, and advise your peers as needed. You may also be called upon to become the project’s technical expert on a specific game element.

What You Will Do

  • Be responsible for the creation and implementation of technical elements for a full game feature by closely collaborating with technical directors, programmers, and other disciplines.
  • Act as a technical expert on a specific topic, being responsible for tools, documentation, technical support, and identifying and sharing best practices.
  • Participate in data optimization and validation by ensuring your colleagues adhere to technical standards for your area of expertise while considering budget constraints.
  • Engage in advanced data debugging until the very end of production.
  • Provide periodic feedback to design leadership, such as suggestions for tool and method improvements.
  • Participate in testing new features or tools before they are deployed to the rest of the team.
  • Perform production tasks within a team as a game or level designer, and prototype gameplay features during game design.
  • Design and implement more complex, abstract design elements in the game that present technical challenges or have game-wide impact.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Team

  • 8 years of experience in game or level design (with a technical profile)
  • Ease in understanding and communicating in technical language, with the ability to clearly express your ideas (written and oral)
  • Strong adaptability, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • A user-oriented mindset
  • Great curiosity: a passion for understanding how things work
  • Experience with various engines and platforms (an asset)
  • Experience with multiple 2D/3D creation software (an asset)
  • Experience in programming/scripting (an asset)
