For the last decade, Transit has evolved from an app for Montreal bus commuters into a global force, dedicated to improving the lives of public transport riders worldwide. Today, we help millions of commuters across 1000+ cities in 32 countries, whether they live in London, Ontario or the London with the bridge.
Weâve got employees across the world, too â with more flags on our payroll than the mud pits at Glastonbury. And now the time is ripe for our neon green app to take on the emerald isle and the misty kingdom next door: weâre looking to hire a Country Manager to help us grow our presence in the UK and Ireland.
Youâll help us find partnership opportunities with public transport authorities and operators, leverage our appâs world-class transport data (which is freshly available in all UK and Irish cities) and make our app as palatable to the locals as the breakfast tea.
đ Responsibilities
Find opportunities for revenue-generating relationships with public transport authorities, operators, and other partners. Whether via RFPs or direct award, if itâs out there, youâre on it
Develop relationships with mobility companies in the UK and in Ireland who would make obvious business partners â especially ones which have good relationships with local transport authorities!
Build relationships with local industry associations and public transport rider associations to help establish Transit as the riderâs best advocate for better transport in their city
Support the efforts of the data team to gather the highest quality public transport data sources (and other mobility data sources) in the UK and in Ireland by leveraging your network and relationships
Be attuned to the needs of the UK/Irish markets and how they differ from our usual approach across the pond westward
Champion feedback to Transitâs product and business teams so we can build features (and business products) tailored to the UK & Irish markets
Support local marketing initiatives, which will involve lots of coordination with our marketing team, graphic designers, and copywriters
As the face of Transit⢠in UK and Ireland, youâll support local marketing campaigns, go to industry conferences (and the occasional webinar) to build our network and brand, generate new leads, and make sure our local partners love us to bits
â Requirements
Youâre a native English speaker, or native-equivalent. Youâll be trusted to craft brilliant narratives for our local RFPs and other proposals â ones that arenât necessarily designed with consumer-oriented companies like Transit in mind
You live in the UK or Ireland, preferably in a city with good transportation links đâď¸ and not on a farflung island where thereâs more drams than trams
Desire to pile up those airmiles (and become regular acquaintances with your UK Rail train attendants): youâll be traveling ~20% of your time to visit clients and potential clients, attend UK and international conferences, and make occasional trips to Transit HQ to stock up on Montreal bagels
Four years experience working in consumer tech (in the public transport and/or government worlds) or as a business/operations person (at an urban mobility/govtech company)
Youâve got no time for faffinâ about: youâll be growing our early B2B presence in the UK and Ireland, earning the respect of PTAs and PTOs as well as industry partners. This role requires a great deal of autonomy, trust, and a willingness to go the extra mile when it isnât explicitly asked of you
Youâre good with numbers. 1? 2? 3? 4? 5? 6? 7? 8? 9? You know them all.
Serious organizational/time management skills: youâll be managing dozens of conversations at any one time, working through competing priorities, contending with hard deadlines, etc.
Youâre a skilled negotiator
On a first-name basis with folks in local government, transportation, and advocacy circles. If youâre on a last-name basis, thatâs okay too.
Youâre comfortable speaking in public, giving presentations, and are a natural relationship-builder. Bonus points if youâve got a Rolodex of media contacts. Double bonus points if youâve ever seen or used an actual Rolodex.
Passion for urbanism: you find cycling glamorous, you can navigate the Underground without a map, and you believe free parking should only ever exist on a Monopoly board
