Position Description
As an animation team lead, you will be responsible for supporting the project lead (PL) or production manager (PM) in ensuring quality and meeting deadlines for your small team. You will collaborate in tracking your team’s work, coach them, and validate production deliverables, while retaining some hands-on development of the game where applicable.
What you will do:
- Create, prioritize, assign, and track daily tasks and work progress of your team according to deliverables
- Act as the representative of your team
- Organize and lead your team’s meetings
- Study the game’s story, gameplay, and cinematics (game design documents) and master the technical and/or artistic constraints to effectively guide and coach your team
- Provide periodic status reports to the PL/PM on your team’s progress and propose corrective actions as needed to meet objectives
- Anticipate and address potential conflicts and suggest solutions to the PL/PM as part of problem resolution within your team
- Serve as a technical and/or artistic mentor for team members, when applicable
- Participate in performance reviews in collaboration with the PL/PM
- Coordinate bug fixes related to your team’s work
- Ensure the integration of new hires into your team
- Participate in recruitment to grow your team
- Produce part of the animation yourself
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in video game animation
- Relevant experience in animation and team management
- Solid understanding of keyframe animation principles, game engines, production pipelines, and their constraints
- Mastery of animation software (preferred: Maya)
- Experience with Unreal Engine and Blueprints
- Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with motion capture workflows
- Knowledge of game production engines, tools, and pipelines
